Law Enforcement: A memo to officers.

Law enforcement. The movement against bullying is reaching out to you.

If a target has the strength and will to come to you with a bullying problem, don’t ever give them the cold shoulder. Being in law enforcement, nobody has to tell you that bullying is usually a precursor to other problematic future problems with the bully. Bullying is wronging others, which means the bully may be worth noting, or they may already be recognized by law enforcement.          Don't give a bully an inch, because they'll take a ruler.

A law enforcement response to bullying of any kind is supposed to send two positive signals at the same time.

Signal #1: Goes to the target, showing them that help is out there. Corrective actions are available. Accountability is possible.

Signal #2: Goes to the bully, showing that their actions are wrong and unacceptable. Their violent contact with others will have to cease and desist. If a particular complaint warrants the issuing of a fine or even arresting the bully, …so be it.

Correctly handled, both of these signals can be sent simultaneously. That is what this movement wants to see. THAT, is true ‘PRESERVING THE PEACE’.
